Biblioburbia

First Draft Gallery

116-118 Chalmers Street, Surry Hills

Wednesday 14th March – Saturday 31st March

Artist Talk: 2pm, Saturday 31st March.

For a year Vanessa Berry has been exploring libraries around Sydney on her Biblioburbia blog, and this is the basis for her exhibition, until March 31st, at First Draft Gallery, as part of Art Month. The exhibition also features work by artist Simon Yates.

Whether they be the sturdy brick libraries of the 70s, or the new, clean and light  libraries being built to replace them, libraries are places about which most people have a few stories to tell. Responding to the current debates around libraries and their role in an increasingly digital world, Biblioburbia aims to explore and capture the physical space of the library, through mapping and installation.

Vanessa Berry is a writer, zinemaker and artist, and her Biblioburbia project was supported by the 2011 Western Sydney Writer’s Fellowship.
